Tautai Trust Artist Residency: Call for Applications

Tautai Contemporary Pacific Arts Trust is delighted to be able to offer the opportunity for an artist to take up a residency in Auckland New Zealand. This is a five week residency which is available to a contemporary Pacific visual artist during February/March 2013.

Tautai was established in the 1980s to mentor and support contemporary Pacific art and artists. As a charitable trust it continues to pursue its goals of promoting and providing profile to Pacific heritage visual artists and their work. It operates on the understanding that the artists remain independent of Tautai Trust and come together through their Tautai connection to participate in art events. The Trust is governed by an elected Board of Trustees and administers its program through a full time manager and part time staff who are based in an office in Ponsonby Auckland.

Tautai maintains contact with the Pacific artist community and supporters through its regular emails and newsletters and through personal contact. It organises a number of events and exhibitions each year and provides a wide range of support to the Pacific visual artist community based in New Zealand.

The purpose of offering this residency is to provide an artist from outside New Zealand with the opportunity to meet and interact with this local artist community. They are also being offered the time and support to visit galleries and libraries, to utilise the public institutions for their own research, to participate in the several Pacific related events held in Auckland during March, and to network and make contacts that will assist them in continuing their own art making when they return home.

Applications must be received by Tautai prior to 5 November 2012
